Klara Elmsworth, a promising young Mage with a haunting past, is entrusted with a secret by her dying mother. Klara is shocked to her core, more so when her mother asks her to share it with only one other person.
Struggling with an aversion to elves, Klara's resolve is further tested when she must team up with an elven Adept and heed the guidance of Araellor, an elven hunter, with whom she has constant problems. Matters become even more complicated when she finds herself being gradually drawn to him.
Together, they venture into The Nexus, an ancient ice fortress on the frigid island of Coldarra. Their task? To locate a possible cure for the Scourge - the plague that led to the tragic purging of Klara's hometown, Stratholme.
Determined to find out if the scrolls indeed hold the promise of a Scourge-free future, Klara requires aid in deciphering them. Only one person can help - the very individual her mother mentioned. The dilemma is heightened when she discovers the 'secret' impacts the elven hunter, Araellor.
