Lily Evans Potter is killed by Voldemort. She sacrifices herself to save Harry, but her magic isn't enough to defeat Voldemort. He survives the encounter. 
James Potter is alive by some miracle. 
As the Wizarding World reels from the attack, Regulus Black reappears after years in hiding. Everyone thought him dead, but in truth, he has been working tirelessly. 
To complicate matters, two former Death Eaters - Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr. - have also reached out to the Order, seeking protection.
