Trying to remain calm about Tan's absence, he attempted to join in on the celebration. His celebration. In the past, he didn't usually like to do much to celebrate his birthday, but Tan was huge on celebrating birthdays so Fang always gave in, letting Tan plan whatever he wanted. He told Tan he didn't need a certain day for Tan to show his appreciation for him, that he showed him every day. But Tan always argued with him, saying those were just little things he did all the time, making them less special, and on birthdays and anniversaries, he needed to go bigger. Fang had tried, and failed, to convince Tan that all those little things meant just as much as the bigger gestures but had finally stopped trying, knowing Tan would probably do what he wanted anyway.
But now here he sat in a room filled with decorations, snacks, presents, and no Tan.
