Zaira Zobell is an eighteen-year-old dolphin trainer at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

During a boat trip to Lake Lanier, a place that many people consider haunted, she vanishes under the surface in front of the astonished and desperate eyes of her friends.
Only to re-emerge minutes later in Ancient Egypt during what looks like a religious ceremony in a temple in front of the Pharaohs.

It has been the High Priest of Hathor to summon her back in time as she might be the reincarnation of the goddess Isis. Egypt's order has been turned upside down by Akhenaten and Nefertiti: they have canceled the cult of the many gods and now they only venerate one, Aten. Whoever is against it, is crushed. People live in fear and the beautiful and peaceful country it used to be, is only a distant memory.

As the story progresses, however, Zaira will have to fight hard to survive the schemes and plots Nefertiti plans against her and the evil intrigues of the imperial court. She is in a world she doesn't know, crueler and wilder, where everything has a price. And nobody can be trusted.

But what is war without love? Zaira will find herself contended between two people she really has grown fond of and cares about a lot: the god Horus, in his human form to fight his uncle within the humans, and Hando, the prince and heir to the throne, son of the kind second royal wife Hadia.

The clock for her time in Amarna though, has started ticking the moment she appeared in the temple.
Does she have to go back? 
Or will she be able to give up reality and forever live in her imagination?
