Global warming pushed the Earth out of equilibrium. Those left alive sought refuge undersea where temperatures were still habitable, but tension led to conflict and eventually the penultimate fruition of a neo-nuclear war. The man responsible wants his final creation to preserve humanity long after they're gone.
