This story takes place in the demon slayer timeline
Giyuu Tomioka struggles with survivors guilt, depression, thoughts like Self Harm and suicide, etc. Tomioka thinks his late friend Sabito would be a worthy hashira unlike him, he doubts himself and always repeats in his head "Sabito Would Do Better." as a result he thinks he's inferior to the other hashira and that he should be dead instead of Sabito, thats where the suicidal thoughts come in. Tomioka thinks that he doesn't deserve to stand side by side with the other worthy hashira, he thinks he's too weak and useless. Tomioka's haori reminds him of his elder sister Tsutako and his best friend Sabito, the red/maroon side belonged to his late sister, the green/yellow side belonged to his late best friend. Giyuu Tomioka feels guilty of being unable to protect those he holds dear to his heart.
