Sakari loves being a part of the Northern Water Tribe, but it's not without its faults. Namely, women not being allowed to waterbend. She finds it particularly frustrating given how vulnerable Sakari feels her little family is. With her Dad having disappeared out at war 7 years ago, it's just been her, Gramps, and her mother, Sesi, ever since. And she loves them to bits but sometimes it terrifies her. She still remembers clear as day how it felt to almost lose them too. She's not going to risk it. So, one night, she packs her bags and heads to Agna Qel'a disguised as a boy to learn waterbending.

When the Avatar and his friends arrive with the Fire Nation not far behind, her life takes an even bigger turn.

{Based on Season 1 of Avatar the Last Airbender} Drin and Silver are twins from the Earth Kingdom, Omashu, which was where they grew up, and their mother is a Earthbender of great caliber. But their father was a Waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe. Now, after 12 years of living among the Earth Kingdom, they have decided to go together to the Southern Water Tribe. Drin is a near master at Earthbending, taking after his mother rather then father. Silver is the shock, holding much more power then her brother in Waterbending as well as her Earthbending, that her mother taught them both. Now at 15 years of age, after once visiting the Northern Water Tribe, now they once again turn to their goal. To see their father's home, and where he learned a way being a great Waterbender, and a good father. When they arrive at the Water Tribe, they are greeted with suspicions, until Silver shows what she can do. Then, she is treated as hero, and is put to work. Manning the defenses, and on the rare occasion for it, going out to fish with Sokka and Katara. Katara is the only Waterbender in the Southern Water Tribe since long times ago, and now the twins have arrived, and she is hoping Silver will teach her. Then, one day when they're all out fishing together, they find a boy, who had been frozen in ice with his flying bison for Avatar only knows how long. He is clearly an Airbender, and he is clearly a young boy, but he might just be more then he appears. Drin believes that his people tossed him into the water to save him from the Fire Nation's Thirst for blood. Sokka believes he's just an Airbender, who got lucky enough to survive the clear and brutal massacres of the other Airbenders. Silver and Katara both believe, that Aang the boy the Airbender who was frozen in ice could in fact be the Avatar. That the world has been waiting for 100 years for him to return, bring balance and peace back into their world.

Avatar: the Last Airbender Fanfiction Zuko x OC Makki is the twin sister of Sokka and the older sister of Katara. She is one of the last Southern water benders, along with her sister. At the age of ten, she lost her mother in a Fire Nation raid, right at the South Pole; all she has left is her mother's necklace, which Katara wears around her neck. After that, her father left to fight in the Hundred Year War, along with all the other grown warriors, and Makki and her siblings were put under the care of their Gran Gran. She grew up practicing her bending and helping Katara with all the chores, while their brother practiced his fighting skills and tried teaching the younger boys of their village. Makki's siblings followed their destiny of helping Aang master all four elements while Makki was stuck on a path with the Fire Nation Prince Zuko and his uncle Iroh. After being betrayed by the prince, Makki joined her siblings on their journey of helping Aang. But soon enough, Zuko figures out that his destiny is to join with Aang's group and to teach him fire bending. In the beginning, Makki couldn't believe Zuko's change, but he promised himself that he would make it up to her and prove to her that he's truly changed and that he loves her. I do not own any of the artwork or story shown in this book (except for the story in Chapter Fourteen). I only own the original character Makki and her actions in the book. Katara dislikes being confined to the home of her father, the head chieftain of the Southern Water Tribe, after her mother's death and eventually sneaks out in disguise and meets and befriends the nephew of the local tea merchant while remaining unaware of the ramifications of her actions. Disclaimer - I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender. This is one of my ONC projects for 2024 and a giftfic for my friend Kelsey Alicia. For this story I am using prompt fifty-five, "you're a young royal in disquise who befriends a villager with a scarred face. One day they are arrested for stealing something you gave to them." Note - While I choose to ignore anything from LoK or the comics that retcons AtLA content I'm not against using content that doesn't, hence the use of existing Southern Water Tribe characters from the comics in addition to creating new ones, but certainly none of this strange idea of a tribe being a colony of another tribe or a tribe voting their chieftain(s) in instead of the tradition of heredity and/or earning the position through ones own merit. As such, the Southern Water Tribe is reverted to an actual sister tribe to the Northern Water Tribe, aka an actual tribe rather than a colony and Hakoda is back to being the head chieftain as implied by what Sokka says about being the equivalent to a prince in his tribe to Princess Yue which, on top of the fact there's no way Hakoda would have gotten that many boats from a single village, indicates Hakoda was always head-chieftain.
