Let's say the Pines Twins never went to gravity falls when they were twelve. They couldn't go last minute because of an family emergency. Simple as that. After a terrible car crash resulting in the death of their parents, 17 year olds Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent back to Gravity Falls to live with their Grunkles. Mabel now hates Dipper, and blames him for the crash, since they were only out getting him his anxiety medication. The Grunkles don't fully agree with Mabels logic, but are still distant with Dipper, for they think he's a freak because of his anxiety.
