It started with a lie. Maybe it was the bullying that made her lie. Maybe it was the protection that came with being his. So she lied and said they were dating. It was such an unbelievable statement, really, but she was a good liar. A really great one. But despite how often she deceived others, she was so easily deceived herself.
Deceived into thinking he would ever even like her. Deceived by the look in his eyes when he said yes. Why would you date someone you didn't even like? She just assumed he liked her. He didn't. He didn't like her when she asked him.
But Heavens, he was in love with her when they ended. He just didn't know. He didn't understand love. He'd never been in love before. He'd never even liked someone before her. So he pushed her away without even meaning to. And now he has to struggle to fix it.
