Derreon Carter has never done ordinary. Not with his hair always laid courtesy of his big brother Zayden, not with his mouth that never learned how to stay shut, not with the voice he pours into songs nobody was supposed to hear until suddenly everybody did. Behind the theatrics is a house that's anything but easy - money stretched thin, a mother who's more memory than presence, and a father who loves hard and wrong all at once. Zayden is the one holding it together, even when he's hiding bruises he won't explain.
