This coming-of-age story follows Zakiya, a hopeful and soft-hearted girl, as she goes through the confusing ups and downs of her crush. Back in 7th grade, she finds out that her crush, Marcus, actually likes her back. At first, everything feels exciting and light, but things quickly fall apart when her best friend breaks her trust and tells their classmates her secret. After that, Marcus suddenly becomes distant, leaving Zakiya hurt and confused, not knowing what she did wrong. Trying to move forward, Zakiya starts paying attention to Bryson, a classmate who clearly shows interest in her. For a while, it feels like she might finally be moving on until Marcus shows signs of jealousy and starts trying to win her back. This only makes things more complicated, turning what used to be a simple crush into a mess of mixed signals, misunderstandings, and feelings left unsaid. When Marcus eventually opens up about a secret of his own, Zakiya is forced to reflect on love, friendship, and how much miscommunication can change everything. In the end, she realizes that growing up isn't always about getting closure, it's about accepting what didn't happen, learning from the pain, and letting go of the "what ifs" you can't change.

When someone believes that they know what they want, sometimes the human heart asks for so much more, even if they just don't know it yet. For as long as he could remember, he was always the person who believed that he didn't need anyone to be there with him to get through the days. Now, seventeen-year-old Evermore student Zak-Neo Amberwell still chooses to think that way. With his stone-cold glares and blunt comments, he knows that he will never find anyone who would be in their right mind to spend a day with him and consider him a "friend," and he is willing to accept this as a simple fact. For as long as he could remember, he was always the person that he felt no one wanted to be around, afraid he stuck out in a bad way. All Tai Reed wanted, as an Evermore Secondary High School student at seventeen, was to have a friend that he could spend his time with. However, with his love of anime and questionable choices, he is afraid that he will never be able to meet someone that would enjoy his company. When Zak-Neo has a run in with Tai, the two learn something that they never thought would be possible. For Zak-Neo, it really is possible for someone like him to find people that can understand the drawbacks in his mannerisms, even if it means meeting a unique variety of individuals who are willing to do so. For Tai, it is possible for him to find someone who will stand by his side no matter what and is willing to support him through whatever troubles he has, even if it means he has to confront his own emotions to keep these friendships. This is meant to be a coming-of-age fictional story about two people who meet for the first time, finding comfort and companionship in each other, providing support for one another through their toughest moments of hardship, and realizing that what they thought they wanted could grow into so much more; that is the wonder of the human heart. ***This story is currently a work-in-progress | May contain swearing***
