Lacey Raine has spent her whole life mastering the art of perfection, but beneath the charming facade lies a girl who feels stifled by expectations, anxious in crowds, and unsure if she truly belongs.
Austin Brooks couldn't care less about perfection - or what anyone else thinks of him, for that matter. Living on his family's ranch far from the city, he's content with the simple things: open skies, honest work, and the one person who's always felt like home to him - Lacey. He's never needed anyone else, and he's perfectly fine keeping it that way.
Since they were babies, thanks to the best friends they call mothers, the pair has been connected at the hip. Now that they're older, though, their feelings for each other habe developed into something much less platonic.

Sadie and Emily stare at the interaction, as I've never even mentioned Austin to them before, as London rolls her eyes and turns to buy her ticket from the booth our gym teacher is running. I chose to ignore them, though, as Austin starts speaking. "Thought you could use some company," he responds nonchalantly with a shrug.
"You hate football games."
"So do you, but you're here. Besides, I hate a lot of things. Doesn't mean I won't show up for you."
