En 2141, la terre est ravagée par un gaz toxique nommé, "Le gaz mortel" qui a transformé à jamais le monde que tel qu'on connait. Ce gaz est omniprésent dans des zones extérieures des anciennes villes, rendant l'air mortel pour les humains. Invisible à l'œil nu, le gaz tue rapidement ceux qui n'ont pas de masques respiratoires. Il est à l'origine d'une nouvelle race, les géants.
Les humains vivent sous la protection des dômes, coupés du monde extérieur et ses dangers. Les dômes sont autarciques, avec des systèmes complexes pour recycler l'air, l'eau et les autres ressources vitales. Ils vivent sous un contrôle social étouffant.
Ceux qui ont survécu au gaz toxique, ils subissent soit une mort certaine ou une transformation terrible. Leur corps grandit de façon spectaculaire, ils mesurent environ 9 mètres de haut et leurs yeux sont vert émeraude, signe distinctif des géants. Dotés d'une force surhumaine, les géants vivent loin des humains en plein nature. Ils sont perçus, par les humains restants, comme des êtres dangereux et sauvages. Les humains croient que ces géants ne sont que des monstres.

Everything seemed to be fine, until it wasn't. The machine malfunctioned and the gamma rays went out of control. Not only did my dad get hit but so did I. The effects weren't exactly the same obviously but they did the same job of giving the victims unnatural abilities. On my run I started to think more about the accident as tears streamed down my face and my feet started to feel like they were on fire since my body wanted to just give out and sulk. My mother chose to leave me, my father tried to leave me. What is it about me that repels people? All you wanted to do was follow in your parents footsteps. Complete their hard work, work they died for. Mana levels in humans though are moderate and usually cannot be harnessed past the normal capabilities of a human body. When the grandfather he never met suddenly died, Shuei felt nothing but indifference. The feeling does not change when a lawyer suddenly shows up at his house with his grandfather's will. But as his grandfather's only surviving heir, Shuei had inherited a large house in Kyoto that his grandfather was the landlord and caretaker of. After being pressured by his mother, Shuei packs up and leaves Tokyo to move to Kyoto and to see the house he inherited...and the tenants who lived there. Little does he realize that the house is no ordinary house, and the tenants are no ordinary tenants. For the house is in fact a Gateway; a connection to a spiritual realm called Seirei-Kai, and the "landlord" of the house serves as the Gatekeeper to protect the Gateway. The tenants of the house are a race of people from Seirei-Kai called the Seishin. They are human in appearance but the Mana inside their bodies is one thousand times stronger than that in a human body. They are powerful and have longevity...but they are also a dying race. For all Seishin that have been born in the last eight hundred years have been male. With no women to grow their population, the Seishin have needed to take drastic and creative measures to have more children and to save their race. Measures that are not entirely working, as they continue to only have male offspring. Shuei doesn't want to be the Gatekeeper. He doesn't want to care about these people with whom his grandfather cared more for than his own family. Despite this he still finds himself drawn into the world and culture of the Seishin of Seirei-Kai...and all the drama that comes with it. Life was dull, boring, and mechanical. I’ve always wondered if this would change. If something interesting will happen. I always hoped something interesting will happen. A falling meteor that would destroy half of town, an alien invasion, or even the Apocalypse. I figured it would take an hour more or so for the sun to show its shining face, so I decided to eat breakfast and take a bath first.
