Camdyn Marley, a thief - one who'd long made a deal with Death when he'd hung on to life, feeling a noose tighten at his throat, had always vowed to return back to the realm of the unliving when he'd finished his destiny, one he'd given himself, of building a building where all the poor could live as happily as the rich. He stole from the rich, the silvers piling up - counted up to become the amount that would pay for the town he was to construct. For, in his opinion; "It is I who is noble, for it is I who has actions as such, and they who do not."
Death had long sent along one of his slaves, Lynid, a man who was not man by any means, to have accompanied Camdyn. Lynid became Camdyn's accomplice - and together they stole along with a band of robbers who kept partials of the gold for themselves whilst Camdyn saved all of his for the building. Camdyn could've stayed longer, could've never built the building and could've forever lived - but he was a man of his word, and he had vowed to Death that he'd return to his clutches once his masterpiece would be finished. And therefore - he was known as a living dead, for no noose could kill him, but he'd die as soon as his building was built.
He'd never expected to fall in love. Never, not with a poor girl he'd met whilst walking. He'd never expected that he'd been the shoulder she'd cry on when her beautiful face shed tears. And it made dying all the harder.
And he only noticed the flaw in his plans moments before the last brick was set. And he was dead. In mere seconds.
But his love wasn't, and she wouldn't let him go. Never.

In the beginning, there was death. The darkness flows from hues of purple and orange, the moon rising to kiss the sun's rays one last time as the darkest cloud of night I've ever seen falls over our tiny haven. I catch Will's face from the side of my vision and my heart tightens slightly. The tick of his jaw wouldn't be noticeable for anyone but me. His best friend, his lifeline. A solemn tear forms in my eye as he wipes his face, another tear falling for the family he lost. I love him. Utterly and desperately so, but, there's nothing I can do about that. The ultimate forbidden fruit, if you will. I reach to comfort him and he doesn't respond. I open my mouth to speak and he looks my way, but the gleam in his dark brown eyes hits the moonlight just right and I fall. My voice escapes my throat and I can't do it. I've tried for years to tell him. 10 years, actually. All this time, I hopelessly remained devoted to a ghost who had given the best of himself to a fiery red-head with a sassy personality and the body of a supermodel. For 10 years, I held to the desperate thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd be someone I could count on. Instead, I watched him marry my best friend, smiled as they welcomed their son. Stood, holding that beautiful boy as his mother was in the first round of executions after the beginning of the Revelation. Helped heal Will's wounds in the aftermath. Cried, clutching the tear-stained shirt of my best friend as his son took his last staggering breath in that first harsh winter. The guilt of my emotions crawl through me. My heart twisting in regret, guilt, desperation, and grief. I loved my best friend. She was so much more than that; she was my family. In this dystopian quick read, join a group of people desperate to recapture their freedom and end a tyrant's reign.

I yelled as he got out of the car. "No! Our ending is nothing like those movies Vana. Our story is the both of us risking it all and then ending up right next to Kyle." He said and sighed. And he was right. Our ending is that one fucked up movie that no on wants to go see. "SO YOU AREN'T WILLING TO RISK IT ALL!?! I yelled louder as the rain came pouring down. He turned on his heal and stomped twords me pulling me close to him leaveing no space between us. His lips came crashing down on mine making the butterflies in my stomach errupt with pleaseure. He pulled away and sighed as did I. He grabbed my hand and ran his thumb over the knuckle of my thumb over my tattoo thanks to his stupid game of dare or dare. "Look at the perspective of things Vana. You might see a smily face but I don't. I see a sad face. You don't want my happy ending. Trust me." He said and sighed again. "I love you so much Vana." He said and kissed the top of my head and then walked back over to his house. But he didn't really love me. If he did he would be willing to risk it all just like I am. But I am left just like Kyle had suspected. Alone and heart broken in the rain. Because I was always the one willing to risk it all. For him.
