The cold, early morning air seeped through the thin curtains, casting shadows across the dimly lit room. As I stirred from sleep, the first thing I noticed was the absence of my slippers. A chill ran down my spine as I swung my legs over the bed and placed my feet on the icy floor.
Mustering my courage, I stepped out into the hallway. The stale air was heavy with the scent of neglect, and the plush carpet beneath my feet was a grimy, forgotten expanse.
