The world is still reeling from the aftermath of arcane wars. Magic left over from the war granted a small fraction of the population extraordinary abilities, but these powers came with grim consequences. Chaos erupted when reports emerged of a serial killer who could steal abilities by killing his victims and drinking their blood.
In response, the world's elite took drastic measures, training their children as assassins to harvest these powers and become invincible. Over time, these assassins monopolized the abilities, leaving no others-at least, so it seemed.
Maeve, an unremarkable teenager, unexpectedly develops the rare gifts of healing . Her mother, consumed by greed and vanity, establishes a cult with one goal: to exploit Maeve's powers to achieve eternal youth.
