The ring had always been a nuisance. It was powerful, and could take over the mind of even the most powerful wizard. 

When Frodo and Sam threw the Ring into the flaming fires of Mordor, they thought they had gotten rid of it for good. What they didn't know, is that an even more powerful being was awaiting it at the bottom, and what that powerful being did after it claimed the ring was what no one thought was possible.
