Eugene D'Aurville Vauss had no illusions about himself.
He was a product designer, best friend of Aeron Brite, and an unwanted burden to his family. He knew what his roles were. And he had given up on expecting anything beyond those a long time ago. He traded through his life alone. By his choice. There were only two things he took pride in. His work ethic and his best friend. If you wanted to star in Eugene's shit list, the fastest way of doing that would be meddling with those things. The first time he meets Damien Xanthos, he ends up doing exactly that. The second time they meet, the family pressures Eugene to marry him. Not only does this jerk end up on his shit list, but he forces Eugene to create an entirely new one - a kill list, with Damien's name on top of it.

He was superior, godlike, and a clinically diagnosed psychopath. Unrestrained from the shackles of earthly human emotions and conscience. In his eyes, he was freedom personified. No one had any sort of influence over his actions and desires. He carried them out however he wanted. Unflinchingly. Without a second thought.
When Eugene crossed his path, he was intrigued. There was something about him that awakened a primal response from Damien. He didn't understand why or what was behind it. He just knew he had to have him. So he does the most logical thing he could think of. Possess him. Marry him. Bind Eugene to himself until his curiosity and interest eventually dry up.
