Alex doesn't talk, he hasn't since he moved to a new school in a new town, and nobody knows why. Of course, everone has their own versions of why he's a mute, but the only people still living who know the truth are him, and the authorities in his hometown.
Matthew is a transgender boy who was taken out of school a mere two months after beginning to transition, and much like Alex's silence, Matthew's absence is mystery. Everyone knows he still lives in the same house as he has his whole life, yet he is hardly ever seen outside of it.
One night, when going out to buy some cigarettes that would probably eventually kill him, Alex meets Matthew, broken and wasted, in the neighborhood park, and is immediately intrigued by the sobbing boy. What happens when you mix the oddly absent transgender boy and the mysteriously silent newcomer?
