What if Cinderella ran away?
Estelle's father died when she was eight years old, shortly after marrying her new stepmother. Eight years later, she meets Tien, who encourages her to run away from her stepmother and the new man her stepmother marries. Now, almost twenty-one, she goes by Mariela and lives in a small town, helping others with their clothes and working with Tien at the farmer's market in town. However, she's always lived in fear of her past finding her.
William has recently been hired by the Woodswhit Police Department. His uncle, the captain of the police, assigns him to Estelle Fontenot's missing person's case. After following a rabbit trail to the small town of Yelautown, he runs into a girl who looks eerily similar to the younger pictures of Estelle. Before jumping to conclusions, he wants to make sure he's correct, so he tries to connect with Mariela and breaks down her walls. But, as he does so, he finds his walls being broken down too.
