Goldenshine faces a different kind of darkness as Breezepelt, her former mate, seeks to make amends after moons and moons of utter betrayal against her and the son that they share. Torn between the past and the possibility of a future, she must decide whether to let him back into her life for the sake of Swiftflight.
Swiftflight, caught between protecting his mother and confronting his own past, refuses to let Breezepelt near her. The nightmares and visions that haunt him are relentless, dragging him back to the Dark Forest where Ashfur's influence still lingers.
