Se define como una manifestación, aparición o revelación. La palabra viene del griego epipháneia, la cual se conforma del prefijo epi que quiere decir "por encima" y el verbo phaínein, traducido como "mostrarse" o "aparecer". Esta palabra igualmente ha sido utilizada en sentido filosófico para referirse a "una profunda sensación de realización al comprender la esencia o naturaleza de las cosas".
El significado de epifanía es muy versátil, pues también lo encontramos en la literatura gracias al escritor irlandés James Joyce, quien lo utilizaba para referirse a las escenas que aparentemente mostraban acciones cotidianas de los personajes, pero en algún punto emergía inesperadamente información reveladora para el lector o lectora, lo cual hacía que la trama se transformara y la o el receptor se interesaran más en la historia.
Aunque la palabra se adapte a distintos usos que tienen que ver con cuestiones culturales y sociales, es un hecho que en todas las significaciones se habla de una manifestación inesperada que provoca un cambio positivo.
Ya sea que surja una epifanía cuando se está escribiendo acerca de algo, cuando alguien se encuentra en problemas y de pronto aparece un pensamiento que ayuda a solucionarlo o simplemente cuando las personas se sienten conmovidos por alguna experiencia religiosa, todas coinciden en la presencia de algo que alumbra el presente.
Así que la próxima vez que logres tener una revelación repentina, ya sabrás cómo nombrarla.

A Zurena FanFic. One-shot, but really, really long. 2nd person/Zulema's POV (Congratulations, you get to be Zulema)! Set in Season 5. Takes place after New Year's but prior to Maca telling Zulema that she quits. A blank doll with acting and action running in her veins, Freia woke up in a hospital with no memory of what brought her there. Sure, the doctors said a car crash delivered her there, but it didn't feel like it. They said her family's dead but how come Freia didn't feel like that was true? Her very first visitors were her adoptive parents, Fabio and Darlene Hunter. She had four friends that stuck with her ever since she could remember, literally. That is until one who was dear to her was killed, in front of her. Of course, she was devastated. Why would that be a question? One day, Fabio decided to put her into his school filled with students that he specifically chose to be in. When she was finally forced to be in it, she found out things she thought that only existed in books. Powers unknown to the modern world, sheltered children who only knows the world through TV and non-interactive computers. All of the information comes in that school, but never comes out. I gotta say, why would you believe something that was written and altered by humans from outside? Would you even put your trust on the person who doesn't let you out unless he wants you to?
