"Why did you leave him then?" the former asked again, his heart wildly throbbing against his sunken ribs, "I-If you really-"

"Why did I leave him?" the masked guy repeated, "Oh! 'Cause I wanted to make him my husband."

There was a pause. A prolonged one. None spoke for the moments that followed. The heaviness of the uncomfortable silence slowly embraced the ambience, as the bright blaze of the cackling fire shone upon his masked features and slightly trembling hands, a slight hint of sorrow, gloom and regret enveloping his presence.

"Wh-What-"

"Yes," he spoke, a little loudly this time, with strength and impact upon his words, "I ran away, leaving him behind, breaking our promises. Because I tended to look ahead, towards the future of ours. I wanted to start a family with him. Our own family."
