"Ayat," I called softly.

She didn't respond.

I sighed and gently tilted her chin up, forcing her to look at me. And when she did-my heart shattered.

Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears, pain written all over her delicate features.

"Why do you want to marry me?" Her voice cracked. "I am dirty now."

A single tear slid down her cheek.

I wiped it away instantly. "Either dirty or pure, I am still going to marry you... but only if you want me to." My voice was firm yet gentle. "And let me tell you one thing, Ayat -you were, are, and will always be the purest soul in this world."

I held her hands tightly. "I know I should've asked you first. I should've spoken to you before announcing it. I'm sorry. But now, I genuinely want to know." I swallowed hard, my pulse racing.

"Kya tum mujhse shadi karogi?"

"Say it." He whispered, stepping closer to me. "I love you too." I finally admitted, my cheeks flushing dark in embarrassment. I couldn't believe I just said that out loud, to a man I was going to marry in few days. "I want to spend my whole life with you." I added slowly. "Forever?" Usama asked, holding my wrist gently as he towered over me. I tried to pull it away but his hold was stronger. My heart was beating so frantically inside my chest due to his proximity that I feared that I might have a heart attack. "Forever." I replied and tugged my hand free. Passing him a shy smile, I pushed him away and rushed out of his room before anyone could see.
