"Dark Harvest" by Norman Partridge is a gripping horror novel set in a small Midwestern town during Halloween in 1963. The story revolves around a sinister annual event called the "Run," where teenage boys are forced to hunt down a supernatural creature known as the October Boy, or Ol' Hacksaw Face. The October Boy is a scarecrow-like figure with a pumpkin head, filled with candy, who rises from the cornfields every Halloween night. 

the protagonist, Pete McCormick, participates in the Run, hoping to win and escape the oppressive town. As the night unfolds, Pete discovers dark secrets about the town's traditions and the true nature of the October Boy.
