Afraid that the guide would fall into the wrong hands, he hides it away in a secure location and dissappear, leaving his daughter Lucinda behind.
Eighty years later, the Spiderwick estate, where Arthur had once lived, is inherited by Helen Grace, a woman recently divorced. After moving into the run-down estate with her three biological children - Jared, Simon, and Mallory, along with her adopted child aine. the family starts experiencing strange accidents and disappearances.
The kids discover a hidden world they never knew they lived so close to. However, as they get caught up in the mysteries and dangers of the Fae world, they soon realize the fate of the world rests on their shoulders and a book.
