In the center of a large city, a prestigious school stands tall and wide. This school is the highly respected Hope's Peak Academy. The school promises guaranteed success for its graduates, and only scouts for students that are the best in their fields. One of these students is Y/N L/N.

Y/N L/N, the Ultimate Gardener, is a shy and reserved boy. Having grown up ridiculed and bullied by his peers, he learned to shrink away and avoid interaction, despite deeply wanting connection. This is why when he was invited to Hope's Peak Academy, he saw it as an opportunity for a fresh start as he'd be surrounded by other remarkable students.

Unfortunately for him, and the other Ultimates in his class, things don't go as planned.

Now, the 16 teenagers have become trapped within the walls Hope's Peak Academy, and are forced to participate in a killing game run by an evil teddy bear named Monokuma. The rules are simple, if you kill someone and get away with the murder, you can leave.

There is no escape. No way to call for help. There is no hope in a place named after it.

As time passes, the students become increasingly anxious, murder becomes more likely, and because of this, Y/N figures his best chances at survival would be to hide away. But, that becomes difficult when somebody begins to reach out...

Sayaka Maizono, the Ultimate Pop Sensation, is nothing like Y/N. She's popular, she's social, she's confident, she's Japan's sweetheart. She is a girl who sacrificed lots to make her dream a reality, and while she initially planned to prioritize herself in this game, she ultimately decides to be the one who will pull Y/N out of his bubble.

Over time, as the two interact, they grow close, and something more than friendship begins to form between the two of them. But, is it enough to stop them from giving into despair?
