Jacob Mitchell wanted to be the random guy you would pass on the way to chem lab every Thursday. Familiar but completely unknown. That was why Everett University was the perfect place for him to play hockey. The team may have been Division 1, but the majority of its students forgot the team existed.
The team is entering its thirteenth straight season without a single win. They're dead last in the New England Conference and just about dead last in Division 1 programs across the country. It is the perfect place for Jake. He gets money for his education and he gets to play hockey without living with the same issues he dealt with back home. Life is good.
Until the team wins their first game of the season because of him. He really didn't mean to score one goal against the best team in the conference, let alone rack up a hat trick in his first collegiate game. But suddenly, he is in front of cameras during a post-game press conference and his name is being thrown around college hockey circles online and added to the draft predictions. But it's just hockey talk, right? Totally not a big deal. Until someone manages to leak the biggest secret he'd been keeping. Now the entire world knows he's a trans man and no one is letting him forget it.
He's screwed. His plan for a life of privacy and without issue had failed. Now he has to deal with his overnight fame while trying to get his degree in mechanical engineering and try to keep living his life as normally as possible while the entire world knows every single one of his secrets. He really just wanted a normal freshman year, but with the support of his team maybe things can start to feel a little bit more normal than they do.
