"There's no security camera in here," Light said, his voice low, breathless, as his eyes locked onto L's. He had memorized every possible location--and this wasn't one of them. He wasn't sure what drove him-whether it was the secrecy of the moment, or the fact that L was the only one who had ever truly understood him. Or maybe it was because L saw him-not just as a suspect, but as an equal, an intellectual match. "No one's watching us."
L's eyes widened slightly, his gaze sharp but curious as he observed Light's every move. "What are you doing, Light-kun?" he asked softly, though his voice lacked the usual edge. It wasn't a question of suspicion-it was one of intrigue, as if he wanted to see where this would lead.
