Dedicated to my friends Jessi, Patrick & Dylan.

The New Shadow is an unfinished thriller by J.R.R. Tolkien, set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, about 100 years after the events of The Lord of the Rings. It was meant to be a sequel, that takes place around the end of the reign of Aragorn's son, Eldarion, and the return of darkness to Gondor despite Sauron's defeat. The fragmentary narrative explores the discontent brewing among the people, who have begun to lose faith and revert to old, evil practices.

The story's main character, Borlas, an elderly man who remembers the history of the War of the Ring, speaks with a younger man named Saelon, who hints at the rise of a sinister cult among Gondor's youth. There is a sense of unease as Borlas suspects that Saelon may be involved with these dark forces.

Tolkien, however, abandoned the story after about 13 pages, feeling that it lacked the same depth as his previous works and that the primary conflict of Middle-earth had already been resolved with Sauron's fall.

Beyond the Rings: The Legacy of the Last Age by Authorr10

~ work in progress ~ uploading every Sunday ~ "He is known in the Wild as Strider," his father Thranduil had said to him, before Legolas embarked on that journey to the North, seeking the son of Arathorn amongst the Dúnedain. Yet nothing in those words-or in the King's measured tone-had prepared him for the path already carved before him. A path that would not only alter his fate but entwine it with that of a stranger he meets in the shadows of a pub in Bree. Years later, as the War of the Ring fades into legend and the twilight of the Third Age gives way to the dawn of the Fourth, this unfortunate encounter follows the elven prince still. What then began as a diplomatic mission becomes a web of choices and consequences bound by a power older-and perhaps more perilous-than even Sauron's Ring. Alliances will be tested and from the echoes of the Old War new shadows will rise threatening to unravel the peace that was so hardly fought over to be claimed. What will it take to preserve what was won, and who will rise to pay the price when peace begins to fracture? An ongoing tale inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, this story delves into the untold corners of Middle-Earth-a journey of loyalty, sacrifice, and the unseen forces of fate that shape us all. Join the adventure, and help shape the unfolding tapestry of myth, mystery, and heroism displayed not by heroes but from those who bear its cost. ~ Book 1 out of 4 ~

Meanwhile, the Return of the King is upon the Fellowship, and the war for control of Middle Earth is about to begin. The dwarves of Erebor still March undeterred towards Mordor, but worry does not arrive short of King Thorin Oakenshield and Queen Ravonna the White. For Aria, their sole heir to the throne, is still held captive in the Shadow Realm by the dark lord himself, and they are powerless to stop him. His secret weapon still grows stronger within Aria's womb- Serafina. But once Serafina is born, Sauron is about to make his debut back into the mortal world, and with none other than her help. Immediately, she falls to Sauron's alluring spell within the darkness, but the question is, will she be able to defy it? And will she bring herself into the light, to join her true family for the first time? This is the third and final Fanfiction novel in my trilogy, Daughters of Durin. The first book, Ravonna the White, follows her adventures with the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, and how she falls in love with the King. The second, Aria the Black, follows Thorin and Ravonna's daughter, Aria, with her and the Fellowship of the Ring as she discovers a dark secret about her true heritage. And the final novel in this trilogy (this one), Serafina the Grey, follows the finale to the Lord of the Rings franchise, the Return of the King. "Without love, immortality is a punishment. With it, a life drowning in pain." "Well then what are we if we do not suffer for that immortal love?" Arathiel. Sister to Elrond and elf of Rivendell. Daughter of Half-Elven parents, Arathiel has been battling her mortal and immortal nature for her entire life. She has walked Middle-Earth for centuries. From before the creation of Mordor and the rise of Sauron to the day that The Ring resurfaced for the final time. Arathiel watched it happen. She watched as The Ring was forged and she swore an Oath to destroy it. Now, after years of being lost in time, The Ring has been found and the Fellowship to cast it to fires of it's origin has been tasked. Her one and true purpose on Middle-Earth has shown itself. She can finally finish what it was she set out to do, but nothing is as easy as that. Arathiel knows this more than most. She has never loved in her life. No love more than that she felt for her brother or own kind. That familial love that didn't fade. She feared to fall so deeply for someone. She had seen heartbreak and she had seen loss, and yet, perhaps love isn't what she fears, but rather who it is her heart softens for. Who, in her thousands of years, breaks that wall of ice.
