In a world where Faes and humans live together, 18 year old Maeve loses her father to the dark and dangerous Fae called the Sea-Serpent. Now, she is stuck living with her controlling step-mother and step sister. Maeve comes to realize that nothing and no one will ever love her.
One day in the forest, a man rescues her and shows her what love can look like. Before she gets her happily ever after, The Sea Serpent attacks her town, and offers her 3 months to sail the seven seas, train with him, and if she hasn't fallen in love with him then, she can happily try to kill him.
