The Puppet Show

Nouvel had heard many stories from her father, but she never thought they would all turn out to be true. When the Republic, where the man was born, issued a decree to capture all fugitives, the girl's father was taken from their home in the middle of the night and sentenced to be hanged.

The sentence was issued by the Consul, to whose household Nouvel then sells herself in order to avenge her father's death. However, she had no idea that in her father's country, live masters of monsters, and the Consul is one of them.

The Consul's wife, however, does not want another servant in the house, so the man gives Nouvel to his son, who despises smugglers more than anything else - the very thing her murdered father had been.
