They're the few, the embarrassing, the politically poisonous. Project FUGITIVE COUGAR is a Special Forces/DARPA black project based at Area 51 testing artificially-intelligent combat aircraft with personalities modeled on assorted Hollywood celebrities. For security reasons, the personnel assigned to it are the screwups, whackjobs and washouts of the military who have no other choice save accepting their original court-martial sentences: alcoholic Wendell "Whiskey" Sauer, disaster magnet Dave "Raw Deal" Lourie, short-tempered Susan "Banshee" Callahan, hypersexual Misty "Centerfold" Angel, and cocky Jerry "Blackjack" Carswell. They goof off, banter, play practical jokes on their fellow pilots, stage mock air strikes on nearby Nellis Air Force Base, and can only be controlled with the threat of having their weekend passes revoked. But when a Chinese carrier battle group destroys San Diego in a sneak attack, the Animal House antics suddenly disappear as they pull it together to repel a follow-up attack on Las Vegas.
