The Elbionic race, also known as "elves," is all but extinct, forced to call a world dominated by humans home. It's just the lead Nico needs.  In order to find this "witch," Nico enlists the aid of the only human friend she's ever made-the eye-patched enigma, Trust. But there's more to him than meets the "eye," and he's quite enthusiastic about helping Nico...  As she digs deeper into the mystery of the witch, her discoveries will lead her into cataclysmic events that cross paths with monsters, machines, and gods alike. Serena and Kay are taken away from their village after a vicious attack. The other leïfaen prisoners are being used for something, but for what? Nothing good could possibly come from what their captors have in mind for them. Renefaire is rescued and taken care of by the navine; a tribe of nomadic humans who are practiced in the arts of medicine. With no home to return to, she begins to learn the ways of the navine's medicinal practices so she can help others the same way the navine have helped her. But still, she longs to return to her home, to find if any more of her people survived the attack on their home. But then everything goes wrong when they get attacked by fire elementals who work for the demon Earl Alfred of Aleman who is also after Gregor's magic. The elemental manages to steal the shadow and now Gregor and Tristan must travel through different dimensions to get the shadow back and slip the Earl and his henchmen in the process.

However, as the Fair Maiden learns more about the troubles of the village, she learns more about why there is chaos and destruction in the world and Underworld and tries to find a way to solve it. But no matter what she does, no one can help her through this situation. All she can do is take simple hints from the creatures of the woods. Who knows what responsibilities lie ahead.
