All she ever wanted was to be seen.
Not the best school. Not the richest house. Just love.
But what happens when those meant to protect you are the first to abandon you?

She thought being Head Girl at South Park International was the dream-
Secret parties. Praise. A man's love.
Until one night
One drink
Changed everything and the only thing that ever mattered...
Was taken.
Not in love.
Not in marriage.
But unknowingly.
 A pregnancy no one wanted.
A slap that echoed louder than her cries.
A marriage she never chose.

______________________________
"You called me a disgrace... but what do you call parents who abandon their child emotionally?! What do you call a mother who only shows up to criticise? A father who's more present in the community than in his own home?!"

My mum scoffed.

> "So you found love in the arms of some lowlife boy? How smart, Noor. You're just like those dirty girls on the street!"

Her words stung. I glared at her.

> "Don't you dare call me dirty," I said. "I became who I am because you weren't who you should've been. You helped write this story."

 "You'll abort that bastard

"That 'bastard' is my baby. And she's the only one who hasn't hurt me."

I turned to my dad.

"You want me to fix it by pretending it never happened? Kill a child for your dignity?"

"Watch your tone!" he yelled.

"No! YOU watch yours! Where were you when I was crying myself to sleep? When I begged for your attention with my silence?!

I reached for the knife on the table.

 My mother's eyes widened.

"Noor, don't!" she shouted.

I held the knife to my chest.

"Kill me, then. Do it. Because I'm tired of living in this prison you call home. At least if I die, I'll finally get your full attention."

Leena Nur was wrapping up her senior year at Leading Senior High this summer and with that, her domestic duties were also coming to their end. High school was nothing to miss for Leena. Instead, it was the bridge between childhood and adulthood. For the entirety of her life, she had been stuck there, forbidden to cross. Leena was neither young and never close to being old enough for anything. She considered it the curse of being the youngest and only daughter of a traditional East African family. As the sole daughter of her doting parents, Leena was their pride, their joy and also...their live-in maid. She was the youngest sibling of four brothers and as if being surrounded by them every living moment was not enough, her relentless neighbor, and brother's best friend made sure to loiter around to make her life worse. It was fine, she told herself, since she was determined to move out soon because of it. She knew she was close to the freedom she had been stealing tiny licks of since forever. She was graduating and that meant something so, so important. College. New Friends. And most irrevocably exciting, boys. If her father had heard that, let alone her brothers, Leena would have been locked deep inside her closet-sized room. However, she was determined they never would because by that time, she'd already be far away in America with her potential soul-mate, sipping hot cocoa and wrapped in lovely scarves she knitted. All she desired now, was to get through the rest of her high school career quieter than a mouse and receive that acceptance letter from UCLA. She could do it. Right? If she could just evade that annoying neighbor of hers.

I welcome you to this Nigerian book that you have never seen in your life. No stress. No overthinking. Just fasten your seatbelts for a chaotic ride! This whole world you are about to enter looks normal on the surface but everything in it is tied to one man. Mr Deen. Every story. Every person. Every small link that looks like coincidence is actually him. He does not force anything. He does not shout. He is not running around trying to control people. He just exists and somehow the entire universe bends around him. He is the reason people meet. He is the reason friendships form. He is the reason friendships break. He is the reason someone makes one random choice that changes everything. Yet he is not touched by the chaos he creates. He is the calm inside a storm that other people start fighting themselves to reach. They want him. They hate him. They love him. They chase him. They destroy each other because of him but he stays untouched like he is living in a different level of life. This book shows you that sometimes the most powerful person in a story is not the loud one. It is the one who stands in the corner and breathes while everybody else burns themselves trying to figure him out. You will meet people who rise because of him. You will meet people who fall because of him. You will see how one man can be peace and chaos at the same time without ever lifting a finger. So relax. Open your mind. Enter this world slowly. Nothing here is random. Nothing here is simple. Everything comes back to him. Welcome to Mr Deen. Let the madness begin. #1 - Abuja (30-12-2023) #1 - Wattnaija (19-06-2024) #1 - Wattpadnigeria (30-06-2024) - (29-07-2024)
