Those first seven years were his only taste of real happiness.
Then came the Duke.
A chance visit to a remote tavern led him to Rozenta a child with flowing dark hair and a delicate face, laughing as he played a fiddle in a corner for a crowd of commoners and nobles alike. The Duke saw beauty, poise, and a potential future.
"Such a beautiful girl," he said.
