In a universe teeming with danger, opportunity, and corruption, a mismatched crew of misfits just wants to survive. Judah, a former gladiator with a penchant for violence; Angelia, a brilliant but withdrawn mechanic; Ryan, the strategist always looking for the path of least resistance; and Jamie, a laid-back joker hiding deeper scars. They've made their way through alien landscapes, lawless planets, and intense battles, scavenging and scheming to stay afloat.

But their latest escape, a peaceful refuge on a remote planet, shatters when the International Space Police intervene, forcing them to flee once again. After a narrow victory with the help of local villagers, they drift to a sprawling metropolis, hoping to blend in, find work, and live low.

As they settle into quiet lives, unbeknownst to them, a determined officer from their past-hell-bent on vengeance-begins hunting them down, one by one. What begins as an attempt at revenge reveals a larger conspiracy within the ranks of the intergalactic police force. When Jamie uncovers the officer's plans, he offers a truce: help her take down the real villain, her corrupt commanding officer.

Now, with their fragile peace upended, the crew is thrust into a high-stakes game where survival means facing the past and an enemy they can't outrun. It's a battle of wits, brawn, and everything in between-and the galaxy is watching.

When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. The Betrayer and the Betrayed by JoeNChaste
32 parts Complete Mature
In the not-so-distant future evolved humans emerged. Those who had powers that broke conventional laws of physics, chemistry, and biology were dubbed E.H.s (evolved humans); it was wondrous for a time. Of course if there was power to be used there would be those who misuse. To that end the evolved humans police department was formed to deal with all crime committed by or connected to E.H.s, a force entirely comprised of E.H.s trained to stop and capture any E.H. breaking the law. Adlet Blacksteel is the newest edition to the E.H.P.D., his skills and experience as a hostage extractor makes him an invaluable edition. Joined by his new partner, Jenna Jones, he pursues a secretive manhunt for the Soldiers Of The New World, an underground E.H. crime organization that has a hand in all that is illegal, and their mysterious leader: String, who, seemingly, has eyes and ears everywhere. While Adlet and Jenna intend on doing this by the books, their unsavory past with two of String's captains may muddy their judgement, or, more accurately, it already has. As String's ambitions grow beyond just controlling the city's underbelly Adlet and Jenna are forced to take action with an ally he did not desire. While prejudice against E.H.s reaches it's peak because of a horrific tragedy, the Soldiers of the New World waste no time to expand their reach and rally for their cause of taking over the city. Adlet goes to the edge of sacrificing everything and back again. On the way, betrayal awaits at every corner.
