They hunt beings known as Perpetuals, semi-human Demigods to who death is a temporary inconvenience, those who also hold an incredibly valuable treasure in their very blood: Charter.

Rat is a revolutionary escapee of Oceana, who has dedicated his life to taking in hunted Perpetuals that the Continental Tribune is too terrified to take in. But soon his army finds an artifact that wields unimaginable, ancient powers from the gods themselves. But the key to their victory could also be the recipe for their destruction.

Lux is a member of the Oceana Perpetual Guard, tasked with bringing in dangerous Perpetuals and defending the island against the hostile enemies on the mainland. But she has a different mission: kill Rat. The man who murdered her father. So when her uncle Blake gives her a shot at Rat, she eagerly takes it.

Lux is welcomed with open arms into Rat's society. But there's more to the story than both sides can see, including a war over 10,000 years in the making. And the consequences of rage may just be too much for the world to bear.
