Kulthum is going through something. It could be a hormonal shift, another round of her "rebellious teen phase" even though she's now twenty-two, or an identity crisis. Whatever it is, Kulthum has changed. She can feel it, and everyone can see it, but no one can cite a reason for it-including her. When Kulthum comes home from her third unattained university degree, lugging more than suitcases, her parents have had enough. They decide to do what every African parent living in the United Kingdom has once threatened to do. They ship her back home to Nigeria. With a one-way first-class ticket, Kulthum finds herself stranded in the busy city of Lagos, stuck with a family she knows nothing about and surrounded by her culture, which feels completely foreign to her. Her parents hope her year abroad will cause her to have a change of heart...but Kulthum meets a man who might steal it. - - - - First Published September 28th 2024. My Qadr

Farrah Ahmed wishes for a cliché life, one in which she would have a pleasant childhood, become a rebellious teenage girl and graduate college with a huge smile on her face. However, at 22, she's drowned in responsibilities that chip at her resilience everyday, trying to keep up with the bills for her mother's chemotherapy. Her persistent job hunt lands her employment at Z.B company, the first good thing that's happened to her in more ways than one. Zayyad Bilaal, her boss isn't what she expected. Call it her obsession with the cliché, she expected him to be some brutish, arrogant bigot that's out to get her life, but she's pleasantly surprised to see that the handsome Somali man is nothing of the sort.....to her, at least. Like every cliché personal assistant in every stupid romance novel she's read, her heart goes against her will to fall in love with her boss. Despite the loss of control of her own feelings, she revels in the fact that she's finally living a normal life without the evils of her past holding her down. Its not too long before the antagonist of her story, in the form of one blast from the past comes barrelling into her life, and soon she's loosing grasp of her sanity as secrets she'd never imagine begin to unravel. Just when life had started looking up for her, it swept her up in a flurry of heartache and vileness. Farrah is made to choose between Zayyad and conceding to her mother's wish, knowing well that her picking one would lead to the loss of the other. Secrets unravel, facades are torn away, and nothing is ever what it seems to be in the life of Farrah Ahmed. ~Ameenarrh.
