If I am the Forest

If I were the forest or just a tree, each breath I took would grant you another. In the flakes of bark, I would define the past, the present, the future. Roots would keep me tethered. As I am now, adrift, it's hard to recall the feeling of dirt nestled in my skin. I am too small to properly remember.

If I were a forest is a poetry collection written to tell a story in fragments between greater descriptions of a wood's existence.
