A Lesson on Adultery

A young man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, give me permission to commit adultery!" The people around him began to scold him and said, "Stop! Stop!" The Prophet then said, "Come closer." So the young man approached and sat down.

The Prophet asked him, "Do you love this for your mother?" The young man replied, "No, by Allah, may I be your sacrifice." The Prophet said, "Neither do people love this for their mothers."

He then asked, "Do you love this for your daughter?" The young man answered, "No, by Allah, may I be your sacrifice." The Prophet replied, "Neither do people love this for their daughters."

The Prophet continued, "Do you love this for your sister?" The young man said, "No, by Allah, may I be your sacrifice." The Prophet said, "Neither do people love this for their sisters."

Then he asked, "Do you love this for your aunt?" The young man replied, "No, by Allah, may I be your sacrifice." The Prophet said, "Neither do people love this for their aunts."

Finally, he asked, "Do you love this for your maternal aunt?" The young man again said, "No, by Allah, may I be your sacrifice." The Prophet said, "Neither do people love this for their maternal aunts."

The Prophet then placed his hand on the young man and said, "O Allah, forgive his sins, purify his heart, and protect his private parts." After that, the young man never looked back at anything sinful again.
