The night had just begun in the Dead Club City, neon lights coming to life as they reflect off concrete streets and tall skyscrapers, billboards displaying ads only interrupted by a display of the city's well known slogan, "All the Heaven, All the Time." - amongst others.

The streets grew never silent as it's nocturnal citizens leave to prepare for a night full of partying and drinking, the chatter layering louder as the sun sets farther into the horizon - leaving space for the fan favourite moon and dark.

The bars slowly filled up with people looking for entertainment, party cries and cheers adding onto the sound pollution the loud billboards had started.

What a way to live your perfect life, or just be an asshole-an empty, apathetic asshole.

The DCC never runs out of stories. Some good, some anticlimactic. We all look for the drama to escape our sorry lives, by focusing on another's. 

For this one, we start down one of many similar looking roads of this city. This is the tale of two people learning to see the world from each other's differing perspectives, discovering the dystopian truth of their reality.

Life has been busy. But I am glad to see you making a change for the better. If that is or was in your mind." I just nod. "My life wasn't fair there." I open up about what has been happening. "It was always about my step siblings or step mom. Always expecting me to be there, when they weren't there for me. Being expected to drop everything even if they knew several months in advance. My step mom wasn't the parent I needed. And my dad didn't step in to stop it." My mom sighs, just nodding as she listens. I know I should have chosen to live with her. But all those years ago my dad wasn't dating anyone. But to be honest neither was my mom. I feel bad now choosing dad over her. As I look out the window, my eyes feel heavy, and before I even know it I'm asleep.

For 10 years, I held to the desperate thought that maybe, just maybe, he'd be someone I could count on. Instead, I watched him marry my best friend, smiled as they welcomed their son. Stood, holding that beautiful boy as his mother was in the first round of executions after the beginning of the Revelation. Helped heal Will's wounds in the aftermath. Seven lineages with three strains each, and each have their own unique set of traits that help us survive. But that's not what this story is about-at least, not really. This story isn't about how a hero will rise and bring the world back to what it was Pre-Fall. This story is about me, an ordinary Remanat living life through the world day to day as a mercenary. A beginner mercenary as everyone likes to remind me. The others in my group have been calling me 'Rookie' since I joined them three months ago. I'm beginning to wonder if they actually know my name. We have been hired to help the New Reach Caravan travel across the wastelands to Philly Del Phia, and this is the perfect opportunity to show them that I'm not just a dumb Rookie. I'm actually quite good at my job. I just happen to get distracted by one certain Eight-Ball, but it's not my fault he's good-looking, and charming, and funny...
