Right now, I'm squatting in a pile of human waste, desperately trying to get a signal on my phone. My friends are watching me reluctantly, their faces stained with blood and what I only hope is dirt. The light from my phone is illuminating their faces, casting light on the looks of horror that I have come to know all too well.

My best friend is cradling her left arm, bandaged with a torn piece of cloth in hopes of stopping the blood flow. My sister can barely walk, and I think her hand is broken. She looks on the verge of tears.

As we calm down, catching our breaths, I give up looking at my phone. I slowly turn to them, my own face crusted with blood. I look at each of them, one by one.

What would you do if one second you were struggling to survive with your friends and mother in tow, and then you wake up to find yourself with a group of strangers the next - all during the country's takeover of blood-thirsty zeds? Megan couldn't believe her eyes. Her brain was muddled with confusion she couldn't get rid of, no matter how many times those strangers reassured her and explained what happened. But she had to accept it, even though it didn't make any sense to her. Megan had been with her mother every step of the way since everything turned to chaos, beginning just a year before, and now she was nowhere to be seen. And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. She would soon find out just how far people would go to ensure their own survival. -------------- Please check out my first finished novel. "Go to sleep already. Good night, I love you," my mom said while closing the door of my room. Damn. It's one of those nights again, huh. Tch. I twisted an turned on my bed. Can't seem to find a good spot again. *sigh* I gave up and just stared at the ceiling. I got my cellphone from under my pillow and scrolled through instagram and hoped that it would make me somewhat sleepier. Blah blah blah this. Blah blah blah that. Damn, can't get sleep whatsoever. I don't want to do this but this leaves me no choice. "(Hey B, are you there?)" I spoke inside my mind. "(About damn time you gave up~ haha~ can't sleep, princess?)" the voice replied back. Damn, I'm trap again.
