In the first chapter, the protagonist awakens in a dark, foreboding chamber dominated by grotesque carvings and a flickering fire. Confused and frightened, they recall a storm that led to their unconsciousness and feel an ominous presence in the space. Upon touching a massive iron door adorned with strange symbols, a surge of energy triggers visions of fire and screams from their past. A shadowy figure, Malakar, who claims to be the keeper of secrets, offers them a choice between power, love, and revenge, stirring deep-seated desires related to their tragic past. Despite the temptation of vengeance that Malakar presents, the protagonist resolves that they will not succumb to darkness, recognizing their need to confront their past without becoming a monster. They make a decision to leave, determined to find another way.

The following chapters shift as the protagonist embarks on a journey through the Whispering Woods, driven by a desire to harness their power and confront the darkness threatening their world. Guided by Kael, a protector of the woods, they face a series of trials, each testing their resolve, fears, and convictions. The trials challenge their emotional resilience and ultimately help them forge a deeper connection to the earth and their own inner strength. Throughout their journey, they are reminded that their love for their family is a source of power rather than a burden. As they gather allies and confront spirits like Zephyra and Terra, they grow increasingly empowered and determined to unite against Malakar, knowing the bonds they forge will be crucial in the battles to come. In this way, the protagonist evolves from a frightened victim to a poised warrior intent on confronting past traumas and protecting those they love.

In the heart of a secluded, mist-shrouded valley, where ancient trees stand sentinel and the air is thick with secrets, "Whispers in the Mist" unfolds. As the first light of dawn breaks through the dense canopy, it reveals an enchanting world of untamed wilderness and mystery. The protagonist, a curious and determined young woman named Elara, embarks on a journey through this enigmatic realm. Her path winds through towering groves of ancient redwoods, their colossal trunks cloaked in emerald moss, and vines that seem to reach out like ghostly fingers. The forest floor is a carpet of velvety moss, where dew-kissed ferns unfurl their delicate fronds with every cautious step. Amidst the ethereal mist that swirls through the trees, Elara stumbles upon a forgotten, overgrown path leading to a hidden village. As she approaches, the dilapidated cottages emerge from the fog like specters from another era. The village seems abandoned, but the echoes of laughter and the scent of meals once cooked in those kitchens linger in the air, hinting at a vibrant past. Beyond the village, Elara discovers a hidden glen adorned with a profusion of wildflowers in every hue imaginable. It's a place where time seems to stand still, and the songs of unseen birds fill the air with an enchanting melody. At the heart of the glen, a colossal, gnarled oak tree stands sentinel, its roots intertwined with legends and folklore. Throughout "Whispers in the Mist," the natural world is as much a character as the people who inhabit it. The misty valley, with its ancient trees, hidden villages, and meandering river, becomes a realm where secrets are unearthed, destinies entwined, and the boundaries between reality and enchantment blur. Readers will find themselves transported to a place where the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary dissolves, leaving them captivated by the beguiling beauty and profound mysteries of this vividly depicted world.
IRON HAND (BOOK ONE): FOR THE GREATER GOOD by LowHale
21 parts Ongoing Mature
"Iron Hand" begins in the throes of what most stories would consider the final battle. Buren, leading the "Seekers of the Artifact," utilizes the power of the Gauntlet, an ancient artifact for which he sacrificed his own arm and triumphs over the dark lord, ending the undead scourge plaguing the lands. Without a foe to unify them, the alliance of various racial, religious, and political factions begins to unravel. Reluctant negotiations result in an uneasy peace that leaves many dissatisfied, especially Buren. Now feared and distrusted for the power of the Gauntlet, Buren finds no respite. Dark visions he believes to be warnings from the Gauntlet haunt his dreams. However, his fears are dismissed as the delusions of a war-weary mind. Determined to confront this new threat, Buren follows his visions to an ancient mountain, located within the sacred grounds of the Dryads. The distrustful Dryads deny him access. Out of options, Buren infiltrates the Faith, a fanatical human supremacist religious order, becoming their enforcer, their "Iron Hand." As Buren travels, we delve into the backstories of the "Seekers of the Artifact," witnessing his navigation through a treacherous web of intrigue where trust is a luxury he cannot afford. The realm suffers under a despotic king, with whom Buren must ally on the surface, while secretly plotting his downfall. The situation is further complicated by his arranged marriage to a woman harboring her own dark secrets. Literary heroes sacrifice everything for others, but what happens when saving the world requires sacrifices from everyone? When do the ends cease to justify the means?. What if saving the world involves sacrificing innocents, betraying loved ones, and allying with despised enemies? "Iron Hand" is a story of a man who gave everything to save the world once and is now prepared to do so again, even if it means crossing lines he never thought he would. But will he still be hailed as a hero?
