Gwendolyn Mathias was an ordinary village girl. She lived with her ailing mother, her stepfather - a general in the Emperor's army - and her cruel and overbearing governess. When her mother's condition worsens, Gwendolyn finds herself at the mercy of her governess. Her mother doesn't have long to live, her father's away at war, and the governess has no interest in looking after Gwen; she sends her away to Blackmoore Boarding Academy, an all girls' academy - rare for the society. Girls are meant to clean, cook, and raise children - not learn.
But Blackmoore has dark secrets and the students and staff have even darker paths. Will Gwendolyn have what it takes to survive the path ahead of her, or will Blackmoore's truth destroy her?
