The rumors about Rinae hating Riki were impossible to miss. Everyone seemed to know, and of course, Riki had heard them too. It puzzled him. They'd barely interacted-or so he thought. To him, they were just two classmates with no real reason to care about one another. But there was more to it, something just out of reach, a history neither of them acknowledged. Did she genuinely hate him, or was it a distortion created by the rumours? To him, she was just another random girl from school, nothing more than a face in the crowd. Why should he care what she thought? He quickly brushed it aside, focusing on his friends who were discussing the latest games and memes. Unbeknownst to him, Rinae was anything but a random girl. She was tangled in a web of unspoken history, a past he couldn't see, and Rinae was determined to keep it that way.
"You're different from what I expected," she said softly.
"How so?" he asked, glancing at her.
"I don't know," she replied, searching for the right words. "You just... have this way of making people feel like they matter. Even here, in this... nightmare."
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "You matter, Y/n. Don't forget that."
