In Volume 1 of Avatar of the Frozen Behemoth, we follow 15-year-old Yukio, a boy living a simple life in Spadia, a city blanketed by ice and steeped in tradition. His days are filled with the everyday joys of being with his family and friends, as he navigates the familiar cold streets and participates in the customs of his people. However, during the annual Senroco ceremony, Yukio begins experiencing haunting visions he cannot understand, shattering his sense of normalcy.

Feeling increasingly isolated and desperate for answers, he seeks help from the king, only to be dismissed and expelled, deepening his sense of rejection. In his search for understanding, Yukio retreats into the wilderness, unknowingly leaving a trail of snowy footprints that lead Janoan soldiers directly to Spadia. As the invasion unfolds, a devastating fire bomb strikes the city, igniting chaos and triggering an avalanche that buries his home.

Overwhelmed by guilt for the destruction and the loss of his loved ones, Yukio's journey unfolds amidst this turmoil, setting the stage for a gripping tale of survival, emotional struggle, and the quest for redemption.

Volume 1 is a haunting tale of destiny, betrayal, and the slow unfreezing of a buried legacy. Enter a world where sorrow leaves footprints... and the ice remembers everything.

In Snow Souls, Part 1 Yuki and his team must travel to Shanghai in search of the rumored "Cold Child"; a strange creature that has been using the powers of ice and illusions to protect the women of the red-light district. While there, they learn of both the Zi family, a powerful gang rumored to use demons and of the Faceless Murders, where bodies have been turning up with their faces devoured. Why had Onmyodo sent them capture the harmless Cold Child rather than have them look into these more dire rumors? Or is something more sinister brewing behind the scenes? Could Cold Child actually be more than what they seem, and could they hold the secret to not only the dangerous Zi family but also the face devouring demon dog whom stalks Shanghai's streets at night? Perhaps... they could be the key to unlock a secret dark secret hidden within the Onmyodo it's self? More importantly, is this the mission where Yuki will finally gain the recognition of his team and prove that he's NOT the worst commander in the history of the Onmyodo!?
