I just stood there, watching. Watching everything I love be destroyed and there was nothing I could do. A town was disappearing right before my eyes. The sky was smoky and black but I did not go for shelter; I just sat on the log that I sit on every day and watched. I didn't have the strength to be sad. I was surprisingly calm. I kept thinking maybe, just maybe, Mother and Holly made it out ok. But I know they didn't. I was the only one to ever go outside the safe borders of my town. I can just imagine what they were doing. Mother drinking her afternoon tea. Holly attempting once again to sew. I shouldn't have left home. But after what happened this morning, I couldn't bear to be around people. I though back to the events of the morning.
