This is a short version of a long story I'm writing.
What happens when a boy loses his dad?
The crash of the windshield echoed. A large tree fell on the front of his dad’s four-door blue car. Alan got out of his seat in search of his dad. The entire front of the car was occupied by a large tree.
   “Daddy.” His voice squeaked,”dad.”
   Sirens blared in the distance coming closer to the wreak.
   An ambulance and two police cars pulled up to the car. A woman got out of the police car and went over to the ambulance. She pulled a stretcher out of the back and brought it over to the car. Her brown hair was pulled into a tight bun on top of her head and a heart shaped locket hung from her neck. She pulled open the back door of the car and stuck out her hand for Alan to grab.All Rights Reserved

As Monte trailed behind me, I quickly pulled out the parking lot and sped home. When I got home, the neighbor was outside on the porch again. He waved, but I couldn't find the strength to wave back and ran into the house before I completely broke down. As soon as I closed the door, I slid to the floor and cried my eyes out. About 5 minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I stayed where I was, thinking it was Monte outside. "Miss?" I heard from the other side of the door. I got up and tried to get myself together the best way I could at the moment and looked out the peep hole. It was the neighbor.

"Stop, stay b-back," I try to say confidently but I can't even breath right. Realizing he won't listen I start to turn around planning to make a break for it. "Don't run from me Blaze it won't go well," he growls reading my thoughts causing me to freeze in my spot. "Do not ever think you can get away from me."

The car hummed softly as it glided down the empty road, the fading sunlight painting the horizon in streaks of orange and purple. Inside, the cabin was a mix of light chatter and the faint buzz of the radio. The seats were warm from hours of sitting, and the scent of fast food wrappers mixed with pine air freshener lingered in the small, confined space. Dad's hands gripped the wheel, knuckles white with focus as he navigated the winding road leading deep into the forest. His salt-and-pepper hair caught the occasional gleam from the dashboard lights. Mom sat in the passenger seat, flipping through the map with a mix of curiosity and mild irritation, her voice soft but stern as she double-checked their route. In the backseat, Lily was slumped against the window, her breath fogging up the glass as she dozed off. Her stuffed animal-a well-loved bear with a patchy ear-rested in her lap. I sat beside her, feeling the hum of the road beneath us, trying to distract myself from the ache of the long drive by scrolling aimlessly on my phone, even though we were already out of signal range. The forest thickened as we drove deeper, the trees casting long, skeletal shadows over the dirt road. The air outside seemed different-cooler, quieter, almost unnervingly still. By the time we pulled up to the cabin, the world felt heavy, as though something unseen was watching us. The cabin itself looked like it had been forgotten by time-a small wooden structure with a slanted roof, faded green shutters, and a single dim light glowing on the porch. It felt isolated, perched in the middle of the forest like it had been dropped there by accident. The call of a crow and the occasional rustle of leaves. Then came the sound-a growl, low and guttural, slicing through the tranquility like a blade. On a early Sunday morning; Echo is getting ready to head to her parents house to spend the day with her family. There's a knock on the door. Echo opens it, surprised at the smiling figure of a male looking down at her. "Hi! Is Izzy here?! I have to drop off her notes!" The boys says holding up a yellow note book with Izzy's classic property tag written on it, 'Izzy Is Baby'. "She's not here right now. But you can set it on her desk over there." I say while moving and letting him pass. I close the door and walk to my bed, grabbing the CD's I bought for my younger sisters Evie. He walks to the door and turns the handle but it doesn't open. I turn around when I hear him struggling with the door. "The door won't open." He says pointing to the handle. "Yeah it's been weird the past week or two. You just have to yank on it." I say as I walk up to it to open it. But a loud static sound comes over the speakers. "Hello students of Clover University. It seems we've had a glitch in the locking system. We're not sure how long it will take to repair. So unfortunately you're stuck in the dorms until further notice. We're sorry for the inconvenience." The speakers make a beeping sound then go quiet. I sigh before throwing my bag on my bed and plopping down. I pull out my phone and call my parents, telling them what is happening and that I won't see them until they fix the issue in the system. "Well then. Guess I'm stuck with thee Echo Short!" The boys smiles joyfully before marching over to Izzy's bed and sitting down. "So you know my name but I don't know yours." I say looking at him. He chuckles. "Kai Wells! It's a pleasure to meet you!" He says happily. "Nice to meet you Kai Wells! I look forward to getting to know you buddy." I say with a faint smile before falling back into my bed and plugging in my earbuds. This is gonna be a weird...
