With a sense of purpose, Sun knocked on the classroom door. All eyes turned to Lianne, who was lost in her art, brush strokes flowing as she painted. She didn't notice the two cousins until May, her friend, tried to get her attention by shaking her hand, inadvertently ruining Lianne's work.
"You ruined my painting!" Lianne exclaimed, her irritation flaring as she turned to face May, her fury evident.
Rae couldn't help but chuckle at Lianne's reaction, momentarily forgetting their reason for being there. Sun, however, was focused. She pulled out the love letter and waved it in front of Lianne. "Isn't it more ruined than the painting?" she teased, showing it to Lianne.
Lianne's confusion deepened as she looked from the letter to her painting. Suddenly, Rae noticed the handwriting on Lianne's canvas-it was completely different from the letter's scrawl. She snatched the painting, her curiosity igniting. "Did you write this?" she demanded, her eyes narrowing.
Rolling her eyes in annoyance, Lianne couldn't understand what was happening. But as she caught Rae's gaze, something about the intensity of the moment made her heart skip. Rae's amused expression made her irritation fade for a brief second, replaced by a flicker of curiosity.
